English translation of the original Chinese essay.
During one of my earlier attempts at running a blog, I put technical writing and personal life on separate sites. At the time, I thought some anonymity online might be better. Looking back, though, how much privacy do we really have on the internet?
What stayed with me most from the Linus × 2 video was Linus’s idea that, when something has value, other people will naturally preserve it for you. I do not yet feel that I have much of that kind of value to offer. In one sense, this gives me the courage to be open. In another, it encourages me to share the ideas in my head, even when I am unsure of their worth. If they are useful, someone will remember them. Today, keeping an idea hidden and working entirely alone is unlikely to lead very far. There are so many people that an idea you have may be occurring to someone else at the same moment.
I have wandered off topic.
Whether for easier maintenance or because my outlook has changed, I will use the Life section of this blog to record thoughts from everyday life: perhaps weekly notes, diary entries, or reflections on a particular period.
If even a little of this unfinished thinking helps you, that would mean a great deal to me. You are also welcome to discuss it with me.
